Language of map: essence, system, functions. Otherwise, one will have to agree that the development of cartography and Languages of map is purely empirical or random.ġ. Studying the elements of deconstruction and the relations between them will allow us to speak about the theoretical or controlled development of cartography and Languages of map. It is argued that the elements of the deconstruction results are closely interconnected. Described the vertical hierarchy of the modern Language of map is called (incomplete) variant of its deconstruction. It is also shown that the hierarchy of metan-maps, where n = 1, 2, 3, corresponds to the hierarchy of the Language of map - the Language of the meta1-map - the Language of the meta2-map. These elements belong to the corresponding strata of Relational cartography. The same hierarchy is built for a map – meta 1-map – meta 2-map – meta 3-map. Modern information systems are described by four hierarchy tiers of MBE. The relation between the elements of adjacent strata is epistemological - the upper stratum contains more knowledge about the map. The model (map), the meta-model (meta-map), and the language (Language of map) are in steady relations and belong also to the lowest strata of Relational cartography. Each such language is determined by the appropriate meta-model (meta-map). It was first proved that the past maps and corresponding Languages of map are represented by the models and languages of the MBE of the lowest hierarchical tiers. As a methodology, the Conceptual framework of AtIS and Relational cartography, also as the achievements of the Model based engineering (MBE) are used. In this context, the current problems and perspectives of the ‘language-knowledge’ system, which is a system of the ‘language-knowledge-power’ super-system, are considered in the paper. Modernity requires the rethinking and development of Language of map for current theoretical and practical applications mostly in the context of spatial systems and their subset - Atlas information systems (AtIS). Preferably for digital topographic and analogue full maps, such studies were performed in the last century. The aim of the work is to intensify the modern research of Language of map.
